Telugu States Get A Raw Deal in Union Budget 2018

Telangana was hopeful of getting its share in the budget, but the state had little to cheer about in what would be the last full budget presentation by the NDA government.

Telugu states - Andhra Pradesh and Telangana had high expectations from the Union Budget which was presented in by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today. But as it turned out, they were in for a rude shock. The Centre seems to have ignored the demands of the two Telugu states.

Telangana was hopeful of getting its share in the budget, but the state had little to cheer about in what would be the last full budget presentation by the NDA government. Telangana expected budget allocation for Pranahita-Chevella project, Byyaram Steel, Kazipet Rail Coach Factory and AIIMS which were promised by the central government. Unfortunately none of them found a mention in this budget. These projects apart, Telangana was expecting funds for Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya, but even that didn't materialise.

Similarly, Andhra Pradesh had to smart under its own share of humiliation in the Union Budget. The state which had been hopeful of special status and special package from the centre had nothing to cheer about. Adding insult to injury, there was no fund allocation for building new capital, or the promised special package, the budget failed to address the state's financial deficit too. There was no mention of new railway zone allocation for the state.

Andhra Pradesh was hoped to find a conspicuous mention in the budget, but its biggest disappointment came in the form of the Centre sidelining the Polavaram project.

Overall, the Union budget has left behind the leaderships in both states with a bitter after taste.
