KCR Extends Telangana Lockdown Till May 29th; Allows Liquor Shops From Wednesday

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao on Tuesday night announced the extension of the lockdown in the state till May 29th. Night curfew will continue after 7 pm, he said. The Telangana government has decided to reopen liquor outlets in the state from Wednesday, May 6th and hiked the liquor price by 16 percent in the state.

He appealed to people to co-operate as the ordeal would be for a few more days. KCR said that according to experts, it takes a 70 day cycle for Coronavirus spread to be completely contained. KCR announced the decision at the end of a seven-hour-long meeting of the state cabinet held at Pragati Bhavan here.

He appealed to people with co-morbidities and old people to not venture out as they are the most vulnerable for the transmission of the virus.

All the centre's guidelines for red, orange and green zones are being followed in letter and spirit. Except for shops selling essential commodities and shops dealing with construction sector like hardware, cement and iron, no other shops would be allowed to open. All agricultural activities will go on uninterrupted. Agri related machinery, spare parts shops will be allowed to function.

Situation in orange and green zones will be reviewed on 15th May.

Highlights of Press Meet

  • All shops can be opened in 27 zones. Shops will not be allowed to open in red zones. Stamps and registrations, RTA offices can function.
  • 10 th class remaining examinations will be conducted in the month of May itself as per guidelines of High Court. All precautions will be taken to ensure students safety.

  • Close to 7.5 lakh migrant workers were provided all types of assistance.
  • From today, 13 trains will ferry migrant workers to their home states.
  • 1400 rice mill workers from Bihar are actually coming to Telangana in the same trains.

Agriculture

  • Telangana is the only state in the country that procuring crop produce by giving MSP, that too buying straight from the villages.
  • Rythu Bandu scheme will be implemented till the last breath of KCR
  • Telangana only state to give high quality power free of cost.
  • Farm loans below Rs 25,000 will be waived off tomorrow, Wednesday, May 6th
  • Congress party defaulted on farm loan waiver in the states it is ruling

Liquor:

  • Liquor shops will open across state from tomorrow
  • Bars, pubs and clubs will remain shut
  • Liquor prices will be hiked by 16 per cent.
  • KCR warns of licence cancellation of shop licences if physical distancing norm is violated.
  • Shops will open even in red zones; only 15 shops in containment zones will remain closed
  • No mask no wine rule will be enforced.
  • Face masks are a must.
  • Liquor sale will be allowed from 10 am to 6 pm.
