“We have demanded the committee to take all decisions by October 5 and that we are not willing to compromise for anything else other than the merger of TSRTC with the State government,” convenor of TSRTC JAC said.

They further added that the threat of ESMA and PD Acts to be imposed was not new to them and they had no fear about conducting the protests. They TSRTC JAC members said that the Government was only given a positive stance to their demands, but no concrete promise or action was taken by the Government, they said.Apart from this the government was also delaying the process in the name of committees and reports which was delaying the whole exercise further, they said.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar stated that they would have to use alternate modes as the RTC unions haven't withdrawn their protest.

Since it was the festive season and citizens should not be inconvenienced by lack of transport, he said that the transport department and RTC officials were making necessary alternate arrangements. The TSRTC management issued orders to regional managers to hire drivers, conductors, and mechanics among others, on daily wage basis to continue with the bus services without any interruption on a temporary basis during the strike period.

The TSRTC unions have been demanding, among other things, merger of the RTC with the government, recruitment to various posts, job security to drivers and conductors, implementation of Pay Scale Revision 2017 recommendations and removal of taxes on diesel.
