Over 45 Rain-related Deaths In India, Hyderabad To Get More Rains In Two Days

Hyderabad: More than 40 people were killed in various states like Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra due to heavy rains in past few days.


Very heavy rains lashed several parts of Hyderabad, inundating low lying areas and throwing normal life out of gear, according to the weather office on Friday.

People spent sleepless nights in some colonies as flood water entered their houses, following very heavy rains from Thursday midnight to early Friday. According to the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre, some areas received very heavy rainfall of over 14 cm. Commuters on Friday morning faced severe hardships as some roads remained underwater. Incessant rains over last three to four days have badly damaged the roads in several parts of the city.

In Telangana, an eight-year-old girl was killed and her mother injured when the roof of their mud house collapsed in Narayanapet district of Telangana due to heavy rains. She is undergoing treatment at a government hospital.

Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad and many other parts of the state since past couple of days due to which there was waterlogging in low-lying areas of the city. Free flow of traffic was also effected.

Nearly 200 houses in Hyderabad's M S Maktha area were left inundated after a protective wall of a canal connected to Hussain Sagar Lake partially collapsed due to heavy rains. Disaster rescue teams of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation shifted residents of some inundated residential colonies in special boats to safer places.

PUNE
After a tremendous downpour in Pune of Maharashtra, schools remained closed and around 3,000 people were evacuated. Nearly 17 people were killed in rain related incidents in the city.

HIMACHAL PRADESH
According to reports, heavy showers lashed Kangra and Sirmour districts in Himachal Pradesh, where the Meteorological Department had already issued a yellow warning of heavy rainfall in different parts of the state for Friday and Saturday.

UTTAR PRADESH
Forty-four people have died in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh since Thursday and heavy downpour continued to disrupt normal life across the state on Friday, officials said in Lucknow said to a daily.

In the wake of continuing rains, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the divisional commissioners and the district magistrates to take all measures and extend immediate relief to those affected. The chief minister has asked officials concerned to extend monetary aid of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed and arrange for the injured to get necessary treatment, an official said.

According to special weather bulletin of IMD, there are more chances of heavy downpour in the next three-four days in Bihar and over sub-Himalayan, West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
