Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress party leaders on Friday formed a 16-member panel, headed by former TPCC president V Hanumantha Rao, to protest against Centre’s plan to mine uranium in Telangana's Nallamala forest.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Uttam Kumar Reddy issued the order and appointed Rao as the chairman of the Congress anti-uranium mining committee. The party had decided to pressurize the Central government to prevent uranium mining in Nallamala forest. Recently, on social media, a campaign is being launched with #SaveNallamala which has been trending. Activists and social workers are protesting against Centre's decision and film director Shekhar Kammula have also joined hands.

Actor-politician and Jana Sena Party (JSP) President Pawan Kalyan in solidarity with the campaign came with Rao. Kalyan met the senior Congress leader in Hyderabad on Monday and discussed the adverse effects of Uranium mining on people and the environment.
