Closure Of Export Inspection Agency (EIA) Sub-office At Hyderabad REVERSED

Hyderabad: In a major relief to 400 plus registered exporters from the state of Telangana, The Export Inspection Council has reversed its decision to close down the sub-office at Hyderabad, thanks to the unrelenting efforts of Shri SK Joshi-Chief Secretary , Government of Telangana and The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry ( FTCCI).

The Export Inspection Council in its June 2019 order have instructed closure of 3 offices in South India which among others included Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Nagercoil.

Export Inspection Agency (EIA) is a designated Govt. Authority that certifies and clears documentation for Export of enlisted fruits & vegetable products where all Exporters from the state of Telangana avail this facility and enduring exports. With the closure of Hyderabad office Exporters will be forced to go the nearest EIA office which is in Bheemavaram of Andhra Pradesh 350 kms from Hyderabad or Chennai which is 700 kms!!

Expressing concern Shri SK Joshi-Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana wrote to commerce Secretary, Department of Commerce and Industry stating that “ On one hand Government of India is placing emphasis on doubling the exports from each state and on the other hand closing its facilitating offices will create barriers for exporters from the state. Hence we request to reconsider the order for closure ”

FTCCI in its correspondence with the concerned officials and ministries urged against the closure of the sub-office at Hyderabad. Karunendra S.Jasti, President FTCCI in his correspondence said “ In the entire Telangana state Hyderabad EIA is the only sub office and closure of the same will result in No EIA office in the state resulting in hardship to Exporters and irreparable Loss to Agro farmers & entrepreneurs and Exporters. There is no other office in Telangana and closure of this office abruptly affects execution of exports as the Exporters need to depute their staff to neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh state wherein 3 EIA offices located at Bhimavaram, Visakhapatnam & Nellore for certification and it is not practical as they could not hold perishable goods for longer period. ”

The Export Inspection council after aggressive persuasion and follow ups has now deferred the closure of Hyderabad office. The same has been communicated to all the stakeholders.

Expressing happiness at the decision Ms. Khyati Naravane, CEO, FTCCI thanked Shri SK Joshi-Chief Secretary , Government of Telangana for their support in reaching out to the concerned officials in protecting the interest of the state of Telangana.
