Telangana Assembly Passes Bill On Retirement Age Of Teaching Staff In Govt Hospitals

Hyderabad:The Telangana Assembly Thursday passed a bill increasing the superannuation age of teaching faculty in government medical colleges and others from 58 to 65 years.

The bill replaces the Telangana Public Employment (Regulation of Age of Superannuation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2019.

The legislation seeks to retain teaching faculty in the cadre of Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors of government medical colleges and others in view of acute shorage of faculty members in some units.

In addition, there is every possibility of losing recognition for the existing seats in some medical colleges, at the time of inspections taken up by the Medical Council of India and Dental Council of India owing to shortage of senior teaching faculty, the Ordinance said.

Responding to concerns expressed by AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi over the promotion prospects of young assistant professors, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who moved the bill, said it would not be affected consequent to the rise in retirement age.

During the day, the House passed three other bills, replacing Ordinances.

They include the Telangana State Commission for Debt Relief (Small Farmers, Agricultural Labourers and Rural Artisans) (Amendment) Ordinance.

The Ordinance on Debt Relief seeks to replace the provision to appoint a retired High Court judge with an emminent person having experience and expertise in the field of law or agriculture or economic sector as chairman of the state commission for debt relief under an existing Act.

During the debate on the bills, Rao said the state governmnet would not mind providing even upto Rs Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 12,000 crore towards electricity for the purpose of lifting water in the interest of farmers.

For Telangana, there is no alternative except lifting water, he said.

The two other ordinances passed as bills were Telangana Municipal Laws (Amendment) Ordinance and Telangana Panchyat Raj (Amendment) Ordinance.

The Assembly has been convened for two days (Thursday and Friday) to pass the Telangana Municipalities Bill, 2019 which was introduced Thursday.

The Municipalities Bill would be passed Friday after debate.PTI
