Hyderabad: Preparations are on in full swing for the foundation stone laying ceremony for new secretariat of Telangana here at the existing location, officials said Wednesday.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will lay the foundation on Thursday for the apex administrative set up followed by the new integrated Assembly complex."The foundation stone for the new secretariat will be laid next to the D Block in the morning by the Chief Minister. After that he will lay foundation stone for the Assembly complex," they said.

The Telangana Cabinet has appointed a Group of Ministers headed by Road and Buildings Minister V Prashanth Reddy for the construction of new secretariat and Assembly complexes.Once the designs are finalised some of the old buildings located in the existing secretariat will be demolished on the basis ofrequirement, officials said.

The State Roads and Building department is tasked with executing the construction of the secretariat as well as Assembly buildings.The Cabinet had endorsed the final decision-making choice on the building designs to the Chief Minister. The KCR government also indicated that the new secretariat which would come up in about four lakh sq-ft would cost around Rs 400 crore.
