Three Arrested For Spreading Fake News About Missing Women In Telangana

Hyderabad: In connection to the rumours spread across various social media platforms regarding the missing cases, the Hyderabad police on Thursday arrested three people.

As per the reports, the accused shared fake messages about the kidnapping of missing women on social media platforms triggering panic in the public across the city.

Identified as Venkat Gurijala, Kranthi Kiran Naidu and Balraju, the accused spread viral posts mentioning the increase in missing complaints in Hyderabad.

The posts read, "The number of missing complaints in Hyderabad has been increasing day by day nearly 82 people went missing in Telangana within just 24 hours on Saturday (8th June), "Telangana YuvaSynyam".

The posts caused a major panic among the general public which led to a massive chain of posts shared on the social platforms, asking women residing in Hyderabad to be cautious of their surroundings and take precautions.

The Cyber Crime Police has registered a suo-moto case under section 505 of the Indian Penal Code.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Cyber Crime, Raghuveer told news agency ANI that such posts with fake information on kidnapping have been creating panic in society adding that these instances are likely to induce the general public to commit an offence against the public peace.
