Hyderabad: Three members of a family including two women and a 10-year-old boy drowned in a quarry on Sunday at Balanagar.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 11.30 am when the three members visited the Jagadgirigutta area to attend a house-warming ceremony. Later, the family came to a quarry, located in the same area to wash clothes.

The boy, who was playing nearby fell in the quarry. Hearing his cries for help, the two women jumped into the water to help but drowned. Even though the locals noticed the incident and made attempts to save them, their efforts went in vain.

The police recovered the bodies from the quarry and shifted them to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem.

The deceased have been identified as Anitha (30), her son (Yashwanth) and a relative, Ayyamma (60). While Anitha and her son were residents of Narayanpet district, Ayyamma hailed from Yadgir in Karnataka and was on a visit to Hyderabad for her son's house-warming ceremony. Both Anitha and Yashwanth accompanied Ayyamma to the function.

A case of suspicious death was registered under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act in Jagadgiri Gutta police station. Further investigation is underway.
