Hyderabad Records Season’s Hottest Day

Hyderabad: A maximum temperature of 42.7 degree Celsius was recorded in the city on Sunday which is a deviation of 3.1 degrees above normal, making it the hottest day of this season. Even the minimum temperature in Hyderabad was on the higher side with 29.8 degree Celsius, a deviation of three degrees above normal.

As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the heat wave conditions are likely to continue in Telangana for the next few days as the mercury levels are expected to touch 42-43 degree Celsius in the city and above 45 degree Celsius in the northern districts.

The IMD has even issued a heat-wave alert In Telangana and advised the public to refrain from being directly exposed to sunlight.

Meteorologists predict that the conditions in Hyderabad, as well as the state, are likely to worsen due to the warm and dry northwesterly winds blowing over the region.

Mancherial, Mahbubabad, Jagtial, Nalgonda, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally among the districts experienced a maximum temperature above 45 degree Celsius. The Telangana State Development Planning Society stated that nine of the 33 districts in the state have recorded temperatures above 45 degree Celsius.

The mercury levels in Velagtoor in Jagtial touched 45.9 degree Celsius which is the highest temperature, followed by 45.8 degree Celsius in Dharmapuri in Jagtial.

Other districts too recorded high temperatures on Sunday - Nizamabad at 44.4 degree Celsius, Ramagundam at 44.2 degree Celsius, Khammam at 44 degree Celsius, Bhadrachalam at 43.8 degrees, Medak at 43.6 degree Celsius and Mahbubnagar at 42.4 degrees, which is the lowest in the state.

As per the IMD forecast, a thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds (40 to 50 kmph) and lightning is expected to occur at isolated places in the districts of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, Suryapet, Khammam and Bhadadri Kothagudem on Monday.

With thunderstorms likely to occur in all districts of Telangana after May 22, there might be some respite but the long-term relief will come in the form of the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Telangana which is likely around June 21.
