Hyderabad: In a massive fire that broke out on the premises of GVK-EMRI near Kompally, more than 50 scrap government ambulances were destroyed. The fire broke out on Monday afternoon around 1 pm at the outskirts of Hyderabad under the jurisdiction of Jeedimetla police station limits.

The ambulances belonging to 108 emergency services, were parked at the GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute in Medchal.

The authorities who noticed the fire alerted the Fire tenders immediately and they contained the intense fire by the evening. As per the details, the premises had around 285 vehicles, which were not being used, parked in a vast area spread in 40 acres.

With the fire engulfing a section of the area, 50 of 70 vehicles stationed in the area caught fire with 45 of them burnt to ashes and the remaining burnt partially. The fire erupted from one of the ambulances and spread immediately to the other vehicles parked beside, one after the other.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but officials suspect that a short circuit or a rise in temperature might have led the dry grass nearby to catch fire. No casualties have been reported in the incident.
