Hyderabad: The Board of Intermediate, which has been at the centre of controversy for the major fiasco that cost over 20 students’ life, flatly denied any wrongdoing and negligence on their part. In a statement released on Sunday late evening, the Board emphatically stated that it found “no remarkable change in the result of the students” after verifying 53 answer scripts of those who had committed suicide or attempted to end their life.

The Board said after the furore following the declaration of results and spate of suicides, it has constituted a Reverification Committee specifically to look into answer scripts of those students who had commuted suicide. The statement said: “Failed students remained failed after re-verification too. After analysing it was found that out of 25 students, 10 have failed in one subject, 12 in more than one subject, and three despite passing the examination have committed suicide. In all, 22 committed suicide and three attempted suicide.”

It goes on to point out that in one instance a student had committed suicide even after scoring 85 per cent and securing ‘A’ grade. In another instance, a student committed suicide after writing three papers presuming that she would fail in all subjects; whereas, in reality she had cleared all exams she appeared for.

The Board which alleged that the news reports have spread canards without verifying facts said “this is uncalled for as there is no truth in allegations”. It further pointed out that, as presumed, there was no deviation in the pass percentages compared to previous years. It said, the pass percentage in 2017 was 61.34 per cent, 64.73 in 2018, and 62.29 in 2019. Therefore, the magnitude of error as portrayed by news reports was completely false, it observed.

However, it expressed regret over the suicides of students, and reiterated that there was no mistake on their part.

Meanwhile, the Board said the re-verification and re-counting of answer scripts would be completed by May 10. The processing of results is now being done by Data Tech MethodEx Private Limited in collaboration with the Globarena. It clarified that they had to retain Globarena as at this stage it would be too difficult for a new player to process the results as it requires transfer of huge amounts of data. The statement pointed out that every result processed by Globarena will be cross checked by Data Tech MethodEx Private Limited.
