Hyderabad: A child has died at Niloufer Hospital in the city due to the alleged medical negligence. This is the second death reported this month at the hospital. As per the details, the infant, suffering from neo-natal asphyxiation died within hours of being admitted on Sunday. Following this, the child's relatives took to protests in front of the hospital blaming the doctors for negligence.

The parents of the infant, who hail from Kamareddy, said that the staff didn't attend to the baby immediately. However, the doctors at the hospital dismissed the allegations saying that the baby had less than 3 percent chance of survival.

Holding the doctors and the nursing staff at the hospital responsible for their child's death, the parents said that their baby died due to improper treatment and negligence.

While the infant's father claimed that the doctors didn't take any action even though his kid had difficulty in breathing, the mother said that the doctors left her child unattended and later calmly told her that the infant had died.

Speaking in this regard, Dr Ravi Kumar refuted the claims of negligence on the part of the doctors and said that the newborn was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. He shared that the baby was suffering from stage-three neo-natal asphyxiation with 1-2 percent chance of survival which happens when the flow of oxygen to the brain is cut off. While the doctor stated that they can only provide oxygen to the child in such situations, he added that survival rate is less in stage three patients.

Mr Kumar further shared that the parents had earlier taken the child to multiple hospitals, where IV drips were administered multiple times and then she was brought to Niloufer hospital. The doctor also mentioned that the hospital was short-staffed with only 150 nurses when the requirement is 450.
