Thunderstorm Wreaks Havoc In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The city witnessed hail and thunderstorm wreaking havoc all over on Saturday resulting in the death of a woman and six others sustaining injuries.

The deceased was identified as Nekhath Sultana (60), a resident of Puppalaguda in Manikonda. As per the details, the woman was seated below a tree at the Nehru Zoological Park when it got uprooted completely and fell on her resulting in her instant death. Five others in the park also suffered injuries. Another victim was injured after a tree fell at the Falaknuma railway station. The victim was immediately given first aid by the disaster management team.

The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to the family of the deceased.

Owing to the thunderstorm, 47 trees were uprooted near the High Court and in Hussaini Alam, Bahadurpura, Mishrigunj, Noor Khan Bazaar, Madina Circle, Falaknuma, Moghalpura, and Shalibanda in the Old City.

The vehicle movement came to a standstill due to the broken branches scattered on the roads.

At the Nehru Zoological Park, 50-60 trees were uprooted due to the strong winds causing extensive damage to the power lines and blockage to visitor pathways. The authorities at the park immediately took measures to evacuate the visitors by deploying all the battery vehicles, Safari buses and vehicles of the zoo.

Street light poles fell near Falaknuma Circle and in the Charminar Zone while water stagnation was noted in areas near Malakpet bridge, Dabeerpura bridge, and Chandrayangutta bridge, Talabkatta, Bhavani Nagar, Kala Pathar, Yakutpura, and Kishan Bagh. GHMC teams took to task and within a short span of time, managed to clear the water off the roads.
