Hailstones, Rain in Telangana Bring Down Temperatures

Hyderabad registered 5 cm rainfall on Friday

Hyderabad: During the past 24 hours, the city witnessed hailstones and rainfall resulting in the roads flooded with water, power cuts and crop damage in several districts. Hyderabad registered 5 cm rainfall, leading to temporary floods in many areas. Metro Rail services were halted for around 30 minutes on the Ameerpet-Hitec City route after the power supply was interrupted.

A decline of 10 degree celsius was recorded in temperature especially during the evening time on Friday. Water was inundated in Narayanguda, Mehdipatnam, Khairatabad, Amberpet, Putlibowli and 22 other areas while trees were uprooted in 16 regions. Ghanpur, Yadadri, Yacharam, Siddipet, Khammam, and Huzurnagar received 6 cm rainfall.

With the Jagtial, Yadadri, and Karimnagar districts recording severe crop damage particularly paddy and mango, the civil supplies department has assured to buy the wet paddy to help farmers.

Erramanzil, Banjara Hills, and Marredpally witnessed power cuts whereas Siddipet, Sircilla, Karimnagar, and the districts surrounding Hyderabad witnessed hailstorms.

According to the Indian Meterological Department, the unseasonal rainfall and hailstorms were caused due to an upper air cyclonic circulation 0.9 km above the sea level. Stating that the depression originated from Chhattisgarh, is moving to coastal Karnataka via Telangana, the IMD in its forecast stated that heavy spells of rainfall and issued a thunderstorm warning for the state for the next four days.
