To monitor Violations of the model code of conduct within the Hyderabad city, which houses three Lok Sabha constituencies—Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Malkajgiri, flying squads and static surveillance teams have been formed, said the Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar.

Each Lok Sabha constituency has 15 flying squads and 15 static surveillance teams, making a total of 90 teams exclusively to monitor the violations of the code of conduct by political parties, their candidates and supporters.

The flying squads and the static surveillance teams were already on the job of monitoring violations of the election code, said the police commissioner.

Permissions need to be taken from the Returning Officer concerned as well as the police department, by political parties before organizing public meetings or rallies.

“Possession of cash above Rs 50,000 without any valid document to prove its source is considered to be a violation and the Election Commission of India’s priority is to control the illegal flow of cash during the elections.

A close watch is being kept on the transportation of money between cities and states. The public has been told to carry receipts and documents related to the cash they are carrying and produce them during the checks by the flying squads,” Anjani Kumar said.

In 2018 assembly election, 182 cases were booked for violation of the code of conduct, out of which 17 had already ended in convictions, and as many as 120 cases were chargesheeted and were pending trial.

Over Rs 29 crores in cash was seized while Rs 3 crore worth of gold and silver were also seized, all of which was handed over to the IT Department.
