She Toilets Get Thumbs Up In Warangal

Warangal: With the She toilets evoking a good response in the city, the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) is preparing for the construction of five more such toilets.

So far, three She toilets have been constructed at GWMC, Warangal Rural Collectorate, and Balasamudram with one under construction at CKM Hospital.

The She toilets have facilities such as regular toilets and are also specially designed for differently-abled with hand rail and ramp.

CCTV cameras, customer feedback machine, sanitary vending machine, cloak room, firefighting system, safety grills and doors are also part of the She toilets.

As per the team leader of the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), P Raja Mohan Reddy, a survey was conducted in 2016 with a participation from 100 women where they were quizzed on the reasons for not using the public toilets.

The survey showed various reasons including the presence of a male caretaker, men in the surroundings, lack of facilities for menstruating women, poor maintenance, etc.

Following this, the concept of She-toilets took shape and the first She-toilet was constructed at the GWMC in November 2017.

With a cost of Rs 7 lakh, the She toilets were constructed in six months by the Indus Telecommunications which is taking care of the maintenance also.
