Hyderabad: The Telangana government is working on the proposal to consider increasing the retirement age of the government employees in the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will be taking the final decision in the cabinet meeting.

The change in the retirement age criteria is likely to be implemented from April next year.

KCR has suggested the senior officials to take into consideration the present age criteria which is 60 years, being implemented by the Central Government without any conditions.

According to high-level officials, if the existing 58 years age is increased to 61 years as promised in the TRS election manifesto, the implementation might cause judicial disputes.

The higher authorities opine that since the central government is implementing the 60 years age limit, the implementation of the same in Telangana wouldn't be an issue but the proposal to increase the age limit to 61 years would raise a lot of questions, hence it would be better to implement the policy of the central government.

To be able to increase the age limit, the government needs to pass an ordinance to make amendments in the Telangana Public Employment Act.

Higher officials state that the proposal to implement a 33-year-old service or 61 years is not feasible. If someone is employed at 20 years, he / she will have to retire at the age of 53 after 33 years of service. The officials debate that if a 60-year-old is entitled to a job this year, the retirement proposal would have to been made seven years ago, which doesn't seem right. In this context, the government seems to be willing to limit the retirement age to 60 years.
