Honour Killing Victim Kausalya Meets Amrutha, Demands Legislation To Protect Couples

Miryalaguda: Social activist and bereaved wife of Sankar, a Dalit man who lost his life in a honour killing in 2016, Kausalya, today demanded that a law be made for the protection of couples woo have inter-caste mariages.

After meeting Amrutha Varshini, wife of Dalit youth Pranay, who was recently murdered by contract killers employed by Amrutha's father near here, Kausalya spoke at a press conference. On March 13, 2016, my parents and relatives killed my husband and I suffered severe injuries, she said. Kausalya added that after she fought for justice, the district Court awarded death sentence to five people including her father, and life sentence to another convict.

Kausalya said that although her father moved the High Court, his death sentence was upheld. With the help of three government appointed public prosecutors, I was successful in ensuring they did not get bail on 58 occasions, she mentioned.

Kausalya is running the Sankar Social Justice Trust, which provides education to 30 people, support to inter-caste couples etc. She demanded that Pranay's wife be provided full security. She was accopmanied by the Trust's representatives K Bhaskar, Skyla Babu, Krupa Sagar and Dasharath.
