Mancherial: To prevent crime, we need to have improved surveillance systems said Vikram Jeet Duggal, Ramagundam police commissioner on Saturday.

In an awareness programme in Mandamarri on Saturday, he addressed the importance of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV).

Duggal said cameras play a vital role in preventing crimes and in reducing offences and crimes in sensitive areas. They prove helpful to the police in tracking down criminals. There are several cases which are easily solved by the clippings recorded in CCTV. There is a chance to reduce the crime rate and make people cautious by introducing more cameras, he added.

"One CCTV camera is equal to 100 constables. We should also put a notice board in the locality stating that the area is under surveillance. This would act as a deterrent," he added.

The Memu Saitham Programme brought awareness about the importance of CCTV and if installed in some areas, could help local businessmen. He said that only aim is to make the Ramagundam a crime free place. Public representatives and merchants contributed their part for installing cameras in Bellampalli, Mandamarri, Nennal, Talla Gurijala, Madram police stations under the sub-divisions of Bellampalli. He specially thanked them for the cooperation.

Bellampalli ACP Balu Jadav, other police officials and around 500 businessmen were present at the event.
