Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today said the state government would take concrete measures for the social, financial and educational uplift of the 'Rajaka' (washermen) community.

The government has already allocated Rs 250 crore for the welfare of the community and it is ready to provide more funds if required, Rao told representatives of the community in a meeting, according to a release from the Chief Minister's office. "The chief minister made it clear that the government is ready to implement the programmes as desired by them," it said.

The government would take a policy decision on entrusting the job of washing clothes in government hospitals, state-run hostels, residential schools and all other governmental organisations to the Rajaka community members, it said. Rao also said the state government would construct a building in Hyderabad for the social and educational development of 'Yerukala' community.

The necessary land for the construction of the building would be allocated by the government and it would also bear the expenditure for construction, he said. Rao also said special programmes would be designed for provision of employment opportunities to the Yerukala community members, the release added. (PTI)
