Hyderabad: Congress fears complete wipe out in Telangana if all the projects taken by the state government were completed, Irrigation Minister Harish Rao said. Talking to the media at TRS Legislative Party office here today, the Congress was trying to obstruct developmental activities in the state unable to bear the growing popularity of TRS. Despite legal cases against the project, the Congress party could not achieve anything, he observed.

Harish Rao criticised the Congress party for raising doubts over the Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project and said that the main opposition party did not want the project to get completed. They are acting against the interests of the people of Telangana. "One can understand if Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu raises an objection over the Kaleshwaram project but we don't understand why the Congress is working against the people of Telangana. It is clear that the Congress party does not want water going to the fields of the farmers," the Irrigation Minister said.

He accused the Congress of playing spoilsport by instigating people against parting with their lands. The government has been trying to acquire land for building irrigation projects. The Congress filed cases against the projects in High Court and Supreme Court mentioning that it did not have environmental clearance or forest department clearance. He pointed out that the people had full confidence on the TRS government.

The Irrigation Minister asked the Congress if they had ever completed a project near Godavari river or helped farmers by bringing water to their farms. He said that Congress leaders were behind TJS president Prof M Kodandaram. Logistics were being provided by Congress leader Damodar Rajanarsimha for the project site visits of Prof Kodandaram. He showed the proof of the car number belonging to Rajanarasimha and air tickets booked by Ch Srinivas Reddy, who is the son of Congress senior leader Ch Muthyam Reddy.
