The PIL was filed in the High Court by Madiga Mahesh from Medak district. In his petition he had pointed out that the authorities had given excess age relaxation for Home Guards appearing for the exam in terms of maximum age limit as compared to other categories. As per the notification, the maximum age limit for general candidates is 25 years whereas it is 43 years for Home Guards. In the case of SC, ST and BC home guard candidates, the maximum age is 48 years. Age relaxation for home guards will not only affect the police force but also discriminate the general candidates, and it is impermissible under the AP Police Subordinate Service Rules. As per the Rules, the maximum age permitted for Home Guards is only 30 years, he pointed out.

The petitioner Mahesh said that non-declaration of details regarding the district and community-wise posts was not disclosed in GO no 49. Alleged irregularities in implementation of horizontal reservation policy, discrepancies in NCC quota were also issues that have been mentioned in the petition.
