Telangana 'Talli' Sonia statue finally unveiled

Hyderabad, Finally, Former minister and Secunderabad cantonment MLA P Shankar Rao has realised his long desired dream, that of erecting a statue for his idol, Sonia Gandhi.

Rao had promised, after Congress Working Committee announced the formation of Telanagan, that he would erect a statue in honour of the Congress chief, and even call it Telangana Talli (Mother). On Wednesday, Rao fulfilled his promise and unveiled a statue that erected at Bommaluru.

According to reports, the statue is made of bronze and will weigh close to 500 kgs.

Last year, on December 9, Sonia's birthday, Rao laid the foundation stone for the temple.

He had used the occasion to attack his detractors saying that Seemandhra leaders burnt her effigies, destroyed posters of her and even constructed a tomb for her, but Telangana leaders will construct temples. The land for the temple came from his own nine acres of property at Nandigama in Kotturu mandal.

But BJP party activists had opposed Shanakar Rao's decision. They pointed out that due to the delay in Telangana announcement, many youngsters committed suicide and had warned that once constructed, they will demolish the temple.
