Telangana Students Conquer Toughest Peak of Himalayas

Hyderabad: A group of 31 students including boys and girls have made the city proud by scaling the Mount Renock which is one of the toughest peak in the Himalayan ranges.

The students' achievement on December 7 helped them to garner appreciation from Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

“It is a remarkable achievement and the state is proud of these young students," said CM K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday in a press statement.

K Chandrasekhar Rao, further said that these students' feat had significance as they come from a marginalised sections of society and most of them haven't seen the world outside their village. These young mountaineers come from tribal community like Kollam and Chenchus who are new to mountaineering, yet with their sheer determination they have achieved this feat.

The students come from Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) and Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS) run by the state government.

Earlier, two students Poorna and Anand coming from the same residential school reached the summit of Mount Everest last year.

Dr R.S. Praveen Kumar, TSWREIS secretary took an initiative of giving mountaineering training to the students last year. Students underwent rigorous training at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling before they embark for the trip.
