119 Nominations Filed For Huzurnagar By-poll

Hyderabad: A total of 119 nominations have been filed for the bypoll to Huzurnagar assembly constituency in Telangana. Election officials said that 76 candidates have filed 119 nominations for the by poll. On the last day of nomination 67 candidates filed 106 nominations in a single day. Several independent candidates, including TRS, Congress, BJP, CPM, TDP and BLF candidates have filed their nominations.

Interestingly the some of the nominations were filed by the Sarpanchs Forum to protest the granting of check power to sub-sarpanchs.

The process of nominations was reviewed by Election Observer Sachindra Pratap Singh, District Election Officer and Collector Amay Kumar.

The nomination centre in Huzurnagar was buzzing with people who had come to file their nominations from 11 am on Monday. Nominations for the major parties' were completed by noon itself. At first, Congress candidate Padmavathi Reddy met with local leaders and nominated them. Medi Ramana, a BLF candidate, and Teenmar Mallanna, an independent candidate with the support of Telangana's house party, were among the nominees.

TRS nominee S Saidi Reddy, Congress candidate N Padmavati Reddy, TDP's Chava Kiranmai and BJP's Kota Rama Rao were among those who filed their nominations on the last day on Monday.

30 Sarpanchs went to the nomination centre under the leadership of Juluri Dhanalakshmi who was the State Female President of the Sarpanch's Association. She told Sakshi that though they were given tokens, the election officials rejected four out of the six nominations and accepted only two nominations, she said.

The by poll which is all set to witness a keen multi cornered contest with all major parties, including ruling TRS, opposition Congress, BJP, TDP and others in the fray.

The nominations would be scrutinized on Tuesday and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 3.

The ruling TRS, Congress and other parties have sought the support of CPI in the bypoll as the Left party has not fielded a candidate. CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said a decision on the matter would be taken at a party meeting.

Polling is scheduled to be held on October 21 and counting of votes will be on October 24.
