Hyderabad: Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao and Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy got into a heated debate over the national project status to Kaleshwaram in the Legislative Council on Saturday.

Speaking in the session Harish Rao blamed the Congress for not giving national project status to Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). He asked as to why the Congress government who were in power then granted national status to Polavaram project during the state formation, but didn't extend the same favour to the Pranahita-Chevella project. Congress leaders filed cases against the Kaleshwaram project despite getting all necessary permissions, Harish said.

Replying to this, Telangana Congress MLC T Jeevan Reddy said the Telangana state government had not requested national project status for Kaleshwaram project and accused the State Government for not making efforts to get national status for the Kaleshwaram project. He also demanded that the Government must release a white paper on the Kaleshwaram project.

Harish Rao replied to his comments and brought to the light the fact that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had discussed the national status issue for Kaleshwaram with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting in December last year.
