Kaleshwaram Inauguration On Prof Jayashankar Vardanti Is Fitting Tribute: KTR

Hyderabad: Working President of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), MLA from Siricilla, KT Rama Rao tok to Twitter to talk about the prestigious Kaleshwaram project inauguration . He said that the projects envisioned by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to bring 38 lakh acres of land under cultivation & with 160 TMC storage capacity, which would change the fortunes of Telangana farmers. In a suttle reminder he also mentioned that today being Prof Jayashankar's death anniversary , it was a fitting tribute paid to the great man who was one of the torchbearers of the Telangana Movement.

“Telangana salutes Prof Jayashankar Sir on his death anniversary. Inaugurating World's Largest Lift Irrigation Project on this day is an apt tribute to the ideologue who showed the way”.

KTR also termed June 21, 2019 as a Red letter day in the history of Telangana which was the youngest state of India to unveil Kaleshwaram project - the world’s largest lift irrigation scheme in a record time of 3 years.

Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar was one of the main activists who spearheaded the Separate Telangana Movement and had been fighting for a separate state from his student days since 1952 . He often stated that unequal distribution of river water was the root cause of separate Telangana movement.

As a lecturer, in 1968, he participated in the revived agitation. He carried out his struggle for Telangana through research and academic studies, and by educating people on the cause. An professor in economics from Osmania University he had taught Economics , conducted in-depth studies on the problems emanating from regional disparities in the levels of development with special reference to AP.

He also has a credit a large number of papers published in the areas of Economic Development and Educational Economics. He worked as the Registrar of the then Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (CIEFL) before being appointed Vice-chancellor of Kakatiya University in 1991. Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) was named in his honour during the bifurcation time.
