Inter Results Goof-up: KCR Steps In, Begins Firefighting Measures

Hyderabad: The Telangana government, which is receiving flak for mishandling the Intermediate results, has finally responded to the ongoing crisis. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) called for a high-level review meeting at Pragathi Bhavan on Wednesday afternoon. Education Minister Jagadish Reddy, Education Secretary Janardhan Reddy, Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) Secretary Ashok Kumar was present in the review meeting. KCR expressed his angst over the alleged goof-up of the results which had claimed the lives of more than 18 students across the State.

KCR directed Education Minister Jagadish Reddy to look into the matter and take action against those responsible for the irregularities. He also called for a review of the enquiry done by the three-member committee and directed them to speed up the probe.

In the latest case filed in the Rachakonda Commisionarate under the Bommala Ramaram Police Station limits, it came to light that another student committed suicide. A second-year Intermediate student by the name Midhi hung herself after she got to know that she failed two subjects.

Meanwhile protests continued for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, with students and their parents assembling near the Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) office here, demanding justice for those who were declared as failed in the recent exams.

Students' Federation of India (SFI) tried to besiege Pragathi Bhavan, the official residence complex cum camp office of KCR, as part of the protests. However, the police foiled the attempt and as many as 24 members were taken into preventive custody.

Students and protesters raised slogans against the Telangana government and demanded that the Education Minister G Jagadish Reddy take up responsibility for this mess and resign.

The three-member committee, constituted by the State government to look into the allegations of irregularities in the declaration of the results, visited the TSBIE office in Nampally. They reportedly questioned the TSBIE Secretary Ashok, Globarena CEO V.S.N Raju, Education Department Secretary Janardhan Reddy for about five hours. After the two-day investigation is over, they will submit a report to the Telangana government.
