Hyderabad: A show cause notice has been issued by the Election Commission to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao over his derogatory remarks against Hindus while addressing an election rally in Karimnagar last month. The Chief Minister has been asked to furnish his reply by the evening on April 12 failing which a decision would be taken without any further reference.

The complaint was filed by Vishav Hindu Parishad (VHP) state president M Rama Raju, who alleged that KCR in a bid to secure votes passed derogatory remarks against Hindus while addressing an election rally at Karimnagar on March 17.

The Election Commission has produced KCR's remarks in Telugu and opined that the Chief Minister violated the Model Code of Conduct with his statements. The set of norms for conduct and behaviour on the part of the Parties and candidates came into force on March 10 when the schedule for the seven-phased Lok Sabha elections was announced.
