After the huge success of the household survey conducted by the Telangana government way back in 2016, KCR is planning another survey titled Rythu Samagra Survey. Under the survey, complete data of Telangana State farmers will be collected.

The government has, however, put the Rythu Samagra Survey on hold due to the model code in place for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The officials who will carry out the exercise are expected to finish the survey in three weeks time after the elections.

It is learned that the Telangana government currently does not have the comprehensive data on the 54 lakh farmers in the state. Only data relating to landholdings was collated under the Rythu Bandhu scheme.

The Rythu Samagra Scheme, which will also cover the horticulture farmers, will include questions on Aadhaar number, bank account and mobile numbers, what crops are cultivated, the irrigation source, the type of soil, the modern technology used by the farmer, his/her income, what crop loans and crop insurance they have taken out, and the minimum support price for their crops.

The Telangana government is expected to use this data while framing government policies to benefit the farmers. “Unfortunately, in the absence of appropriate statistical data, it is becoming difficult to take decisions. We need data on the amount of rice produced, fruits produced, and the domestic food needs of people,” KCR had recently remarked.

This exercise is aimed at addressing the grievance of farmers who are demanding minimum support price for their produce.
