Hyderabad: President of Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana, Dr K Lakshman admitted that the BJP was not able to grow in stature because of its tie-up with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). Speaking to the media at the party office on Saturday, he said that the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu could never win on his own capabilities and was able to win only because of the BJP's support.

Talking about the 1998 elections he said that BJP contested on its own and won 4 MP seats and got 17% poll percentage in Andhra Pradesh and 21% poll percentage in Telangana. After the Kargil war in 1999, Chandrababu forged an alliance with the BJP and won the elections, he said.

As he had no choice in 2014 he contested in the elections with the BJP’s support and won the elections again, but changed his stance and withdrew support to the BJP.

K Lakhsman also said that Telangana Chief Minister was scared about Narendra Modi's popularity and had called for the dissolution of the assembly and early elections. He also said that there was going to be no alliance with the TRS and that the BJP would contest alone in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He said that even if KCR won 16 Lok Sabha seats how could he even think about becoming a Prime Minister, he asked.

Lakshman said that if the party high command agrees, he would contest in the Lok Sabha elections, but evaded the question if it were to be for the Secunderabad or Malakjgiri constituencies. He said that even if they lost the assembly elections, BJP would contest in all the 17 Lok Sabha seats, and expressed confidence in winning a few seats also.

He said that he would be sending three eligible aspirants’ names from each constituency to the high command as a recommendation and that the BJP would be conducting various programs for poll preparedness across the state, he concluded.
