Hyderabad: AIMIM leader and MP of Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi came up with eight points against the bill which grants 10% reservation for the upper caste poor. The leader was certain that the constitution will not recognize economically backward people from the upper caste to be eligible to obtain a reservation and this bill might not stand in the court of law, he added. Owaisi took a jibe at the BJP and said,” Todayyou can celebrate Diwali but this bill cannot stand in the court.”

The eight reasons pointed by him said, that the bill was a black mark on the Constitution and an insult to father of Indian Constitution BR Ambedkar. He added,” reservation was rolled out to deliver social justice and to minimize the social economic backwardness. If they (BJP) want to support the economically poor citizens then there are other poverty alleviation schemes that the government can implement."

Indian Constitution is not going to recognize economic weaker sections, as a base for reservation. The architects of our Constitution had more wisdom than this government, added Owaisi while speaking in the Parliament.

AIMIM leader said that this exercise is lacking proper empirical data regarding backwardness. He called this amendment as an additional burden on the states. The proposal of Telangana state government to grant reservation of 10 % to Muslims and 12 % to ST's was backed with required empirical data, but the Union government has withheld it for past six months, he reminded.

Later he questioned that, “have the people from upper castes ever suffered untouchability, police encounters and atrocities on them?” Later quoting other issues faced by the SC, ST, Dalits, and Muslims, he said school dropouts, lower number of graduates is in higher rates when compared with others.”
