Hyderabad: MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, Floor leader of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) was admitted to Owaisi Hospital and Research Centre on Thursday night due to severe stomach pain after attending a function in the night . As the pain didn't subside despite pain killers being administered he was immediately rushed to the hospital .

His brother and MIM Chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, who was in New Delhi for the Parliament Winter session returned to Hyderabad and to check on his brother's health.

Akbaruddin Owaisi was attacked on April 30, 2011, by assailants with knives, who later opened fire at him in the Barkas area of his constituency, along with Malakpet AIMIM MLA Ahmed Balala. Several men, allegedly sent by Mohammed Pahelwan attacked him with knives and opened fire as he ran towards his car. He survived the attempt and had to undergo two surgeries since then.

He was discharged at 3 pm on Saturday, and doctors have advised bed rest for a couple of days . Akbaruddin has a hectic week ahead with his niece, Qudsia, daughter of Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi scheduled to get married to Barkat Alam Khan on Friday, 28th and the Valima set to take place on Sunday, 30th. The celebrations will kick off earlier with other functions leading up to the wedding. Akbaruddin is likely to have a busy time ahead with feasts, guests who include a host of VVIPs, and playing host.

The Alam Khans are a well-known business family originally associated with Hyderabad Deccan Cigarette Factory which once used to manufacture the popular local brand of yesteryear's, Golconda Cigarettes. The family later diversified into other areas.
