Senior leader of the TRS and caretaker Irrigation minister T Harish Rao is the man of the hour as he secured a massive 1 lakh plus majority in Siddipet. With a double hat-trick from the constituency, Harish Rao created a record for highest majority in the Telangana elections.

By securing a win for the sixth time from a constituency, the TRS leader joined a club of select few leaders across the country, who had won on as many occasions from a constituency. Importantly, he did it a very young age (for a politician) of 46 years. Harish Rao has been representing Siddipet ever since his first election in 2004. Soon after his win back then, the TRS leader was inducted to late Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s cabinet. He was crucial to TRS’s show in the elections with his super fast rallies in around 20 constituencies in which the TRS candidates needed help.It may be recalled that TRS supremo KCR roped in Harish Rao for a series of rallies in critical constituencies for the last five days of election campaign, starting December 7.

The fact that Harish, called a troubleshooter in the party circles, was the only other leader other than caretaker CM KCR, who had the luxury of covering constituencies with a chopper on hand.Although it was earlier speculated that Harish Rao would be fielded from Sangareddy opposite Jagga Reddy of the Congress, KCR stuck to his September 6 list of contestants. Except for Nallala Odelu of Chennur and Babu Mohan of Andole, all the sitting MLAs were retained by KCR. Harish Rao, it is said, is the mobilizer-in-chief for the TRS’s public meetings.

Not only is the Siddipet MLA a troubleshooter, he is described as a shining weapon in KCR’s armour of leaders within the party. Hence, he is an unsung hero hidden in the shadows of KCR and KTR. All in all, it must be said that KCR’s gamble to go for early polls paid off, as did Harish Rao’s hard work on the ground.
