Blow To Congress In Jagtial As TRS Triumphs
TRS's contestant from Jagtial, Dr Sanjay Kumar has all but secured a win over Jeevan Reddy, a six-time MLA of the Congress. It may be recalled that MP K Kavitha had officially announced Sanjay Kumar's candidature from Jagtial on September 4, two days before Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao dissolved the Assembly. It appears the gamble to retain Sanjay Kumar worked well this time around.
In the 2014 elections, the TRS candidate lost by a thin majority of 7,828 votes. This comes as a major blow to the Congress party, which was hopeful of retaining the seats where senior leaders like Jeevan Reddy were in fray. Also, the TRS win in Jagtial comes as a disappointment to TDP Telangana unit chief L Ramana, who had to sacrifice his seat for the Congress in the Praja Kutami's seat sharing process.
