Hyderabad: The Election Commission (EC) had a sigh of relief after it had successfully conducted the assembly elections in Telangana and Rajasthan on December 7. It should be said that the Telangana unit of the EC did a commendable job in a short span of two months , after the unexpected dissolution of the State Assembly on September 6. However, the missing voter names in electoral rolls drew flak from the Hyderabadis’.

Now, it is the turn of the politicians and contestants, who are busy estimating the number of votes polled to their parties in various polling booths, as they await the counting day on Tuesday, December 11. "Who will win from which constituency?" is the question of the hour across Telangana at the moment.

The fact that over 20 lakh genuine voters were excluded from the electoral roll adds to the woes of the candidates who had expected support from certain segments of voters. Despite the Election Commission extensively promoting the right to vote and its campaign asking people to vote, the voting percentage remained low, repeating the trend from previous elections in Hyderabad.

"Which party would be benefit most from the loss of votes in Hyderabad and others?" Only a handful of candidates across the 24 constituencies in Greater Hyderabad are confident of pulling off a win, while some others worry about their future.

A woman voter from Swarup Nagar of Uppal constituency who wanted to vote for the Congress party returned home without voting after she learnt that the Praja Kutami fielded TDP candidate Veerender Goud in the constituency. It appears many a voter turned their back to the Praja Kutami candidates for similar reasons.

Although all the constituency-level leaders were convinced with the Praja Kutami alliance, the booth level cadre found it tough campaigning for other parties. On the other hand, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) candidates are contemplating on their performance at the ballot. This situation is expected to continue in the coming two days.

In Malkajgiri constituency alone, 40,000 votes went missing, say local voters. Scores of voters from Uppal, Secunderabad, Cantonment, LB Nagar, Charminar and Yakutpura constituencies were left in disappointment as they found their names missing  from the electoral rolls.
