Congress leader Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy

The Munugode assembly constituency in the undivided Nalgonda district is a matter of prestige for the Congress party, which has a long-serving dedicated cadre across the district. This time around, the Komatireddy brothers, Venkat Reddy and Rajagopal Reddy, were adamant on getting the Munugode constituency in addition to the Nalgonda seat, which was represented by Rajagopal Reddy is the recently dissolved House.

Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, a former MP, is currently a member of the Legislative Council. He is contesting the upcoming election against sitting MLA from the TRS, Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, who won as a Congress candidate and later joined the TRS in 2014. Out of the total voters of 217,760, Prabhakar Reddy secured a majority of 38,055 votes against independent candidate Palvai Sravanthi.

The Miryalaguda assembly constituency in the undivided Nalgonda district is expected to be a close contest between the Congress's R. Krishnaiah and N. Bhaskar Rao of the TRS. In what could turn out to be a trump card to woo the BC voters in the December 7 polls, the Congress strategically fielded Krishnaiah, the former TDP MLA from LB Nagar, in the last moment. It may be recalled that the TDP in 2014 announced Krishnaiah as its Chief Ministerial candidate.

Sitting MLA Bhaskar Rao followed the path of Munugode's Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy after winning as a Congress candidate with a thin majority of 6,054 votes over TRS candidate Amarender Reddy in 2014. According to analysts, the Congress already tasted success in Miryalaguda with the announcement of the BC leader's candidature.
