Rajahmundry: Responding to Andhra Pradesh government's decision to withdraw its consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) operations in the State, former MP Undavalli Arun Kumar said that the agency had the power to intervene in the irregularities in the departments that come under the purview of the Central government.

Speaking to media here today, Undavalli said that the CBI didn't need anybody's permission to function within its jurisdiction. The State government could ask the CBI to probe the aspects which come under its ambit, he explained. Recalling that Chandrababu, in his 15 years as Chief Minister, never called for a CBI enquiry, he added that the AP government's latest notification was no less than a tissue paper.

"In the cases related to Kalyan Singh Sarkar and Pappu Yadav, the Uttar Pradesh government called for a CBI enquiry. It is hilarious that Chandrababu Naidu has issued a GO instead of condemning the IT raids. The TDP Chief is spoiling the reputation of the State with his antics," he asserted.

The former MP further said that the notification did no good to the State but brought disrepute. How could the TDP oppose CBI when a probe was not called for in the all-important Polavaram issue? he asked.

"Chandrababu claimed that there were attempts to spoil his image by launching CBI raids against his associates. The State government should reconsider its decision before a damage to its reputation is caused," he added.
