Kodangal assembly constituency was formed in 1952. While it was in Mahbubnagar district earlier, it was later merged with Vikarabad district. Kodangal, which is among the most backward areas in the Palamuru region, consists of Kosgi, Kodangal, Bomraspeta, Doulatabad and Maddur mandals.

It was won by A. Revanth Reddy of the Telugu Deasam Party in 2014, defeating Gurunath Reddy of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi by well over 14000 votes. Revanth Reddy has since joined the Congress party and is now the working president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.

With close to 1,87,000 voters split almost equally between men and women, Kodangal is a stronghold of the the former TDP heavyweight and current TPCC working president, Revanth Reddy. The TRS is also eyeing the seat since Revanth Reddy has been among the sharpest critics of caretaker chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and the TRS is intent on making a fight of it. The party, it is learnt, is keen on getting Revanth defeated and is leaving no stone unturned to this effect. However, it remains to be seen whether Patnam Narender Reddy will have the muscle to pull voters in his direction against a formidable political rival in the form of Revanth Reddy.

Gadwal assembly constituency

Represented by former Congress minister, DK Aruna, Gadwal in Jogulamba Gadwal district, is a stronghold of the DK family. Gadwal falls under the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha seat. In 2014, she had defeated her nephew, B. Krishnamohan Reddy of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi by more than 8,000 votes. Krishnamohan Reddy had in 2009 contested against DK Aruna on a TDP ticket and lost. Later, he shifted to the TRS. He will once again face off against DK Aruna, and as things stand is not the hot favourite, locals say.

At the same time, the TRS leadership is keen on ensuring the defeat of DK Aruna, but considering she is no push-over, it remains to be seen how this electoral battle plays out.
