Nagarkurnool Could Go The TRS Way

Nagarkurnool constituency profile

Nagarkurnool assembly constituency was won by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in 2014. The seat has been a stronghold of Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who first migrated to the BJP from the TDP and has now joined the Congress earlier this year. With well over 2 lakh voters, Nagarkurnool is likely to be retained by Marri Janardhan Reddy of the TRS. Last time around, he had won the seat by a margin of well over 14,000 votes over K. Damodar Reddy of the Congress. Whether Nagam Janardhan Reddy will continue to wield the influence he once used in the constituency, also remains to be seen. The question as to whether Nagarkurnool has also been singed by simmering anti-incumbency in some parts, remains to be seen.

Makhtal assembly constituency

In the recently dissolved House, Chittem Ram Mohan Reddy of the Congress represented the backward Makhtal constituency, one of the segments under the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha seat. Interestingly, he defeated Y. Yella Yella Reddy of the TDP back then by 10,027 votes. He subsequently joined the TRS.

In the 2014 elections, the constituency had a voter base of over 2 lakhs. Will the TDP continue to pull the kind of votes it did four and half years ago, is a big question. While the buzz is that the TRS could win the seat, a cloud of uncertainty hangs over Makhtal as of now and could only be cleared once the campaign spearheads on all sides shift gears. The Chittem family's influence on the electorate also has to be factored into account.
