Hyderabad: Politics they say, makes strange bedfellows.  In an instance of this kind, the Telangana unit of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is prepared to go on to the back foot to support the Congress-led grand alliance in the upcoming Assembly elections.

In a peculiar situation, political rivals TDP State Chief L Ramana and the Congress's sitting leader in Jagtial Jeevan Reddy were earlier vying for the ticket in their home constituency. But, in what may be seen as a political sacrifice, the grand alliance's seat-sharing  exercise is learnt to have compelled Ramana to give up hopes on his own ticket.

If the speculation in the air is of any merit, the TDP Chief would in all likelihood be supporting Congress leader Jeevan Reddy's yet another bid to get elected from Jagtial. In the interest of the grand alliance, I would consider the Congress's push for fielding Jeevan Reddy from Jagtial, he said to an English daily.

However, the TDP leaders are not ready to give up their claims for the tickets in various constituencies. On one side, the Telangana Jana Samithi is aspiring to field its candidates from those candidates in which the Telangana agitation was in full flow under the Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC), while on the other, the TDP is adamant to contest from the seats with high Andhra population.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders opine that the seat-sharing exercise would come to an end by October end. Watch this space for more updates on Telangana Assembly elections 2018.
