Ranga Reddy: The Congress party's resolution to field only one candidate from each political party has put former Home minister and senior leader of the Congress Sabitha Indra Reddy in a spot, it is said. In 2014 elections, the leader had to sacrifice her seat to her son, Karthik Reddy, thanks to the one member from a family rule. As things stand, Sabitha Indra Reddy is still not sure of contesting from Maheshwaram constituency, while Karthik Reddy is aspiring to contest from Rajendra Nagar in the upcoming Assembly elections. Noth that it will be smooth sailing for him. He will have a contest on hand in four-cornered contest, with the TRS, AIMIM and BJP in the fray.

Although the two leaders placed their bet on Chevella Lok Sabha constituency in 2014, the mother-son duo could not turn the tide in their favour. Karthik Reddy lost to TRS candidate Konda Vishweshwar Reddy by 73,000 votes.

In what may come as a jolt to Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Congress party, if it abstains from fielding both the leaders, would dash the hopes of the party cadre, who have been working for them in the constituencies. However, the AICC may give a green signal for fielding the two due to a dearth of competent leaders from the two constituencies.

According to party sources, it appears that the one seat per family rule might not be applicable to Sabitha Indra Reddy's family, keeping in mind its strong will to come back to power at any cost this time around. Also, that Sabitha Indra Reddy and Karthik had both contested in the past is an advantage. If one goes by the developments in the Congress, the new rule applies only to newbies and debutants.

Yet, if the Congress leadership does not give a nod to field the mother-son duo, Karthik Reddy is believed to be ready to sacrifice his seat for the former Home minister.
