Hyderabad: In what is likely to be a keenly fought election, it is learnt that the BJP is contemplating fielding one of its heavyweight candidates, Bandaru Dattatreya from Sanathnagar. The former Union minister and Member of Parliament from Secunderabad will have a mountain to climb when he takes on Talasani Srinivas Yadav from the TRS and Marri Shashidhar Reddy from the Congress.

The three-way contest in Sanathnagar will be the one to watch. Some analysts feel that the TRS candidate has an edge in the fight because of a large number of minority votes which could go his way. There are others who point out that because of the understanding that the TDP has reached with the Congress, a sizeable number of votes of Andhra settlers could tip the balance in favour of the Congress candidate.

It is also likely that in the event of a close fight between Congress and TRS, the BJP could stand to gain. Whatever the outcome, if Dattatreya is fielded from this constituency it will not be smooth sailing for him in spite of his experience and seniority.

BJP’s Ramachandra Rao is likely to be the party’s candidate from Malkajgiri. The national party is banking on its large voter base is urban pockets and it hopes that Rao can ride this goodwill to get home in this constituency. Similarly, party circles feel that the Uppal candidate, MVVS Prabhakar could scrape home over the TRS candidate B. Subhash Reddy. On the other hand, the buzz in TRS circles is that Prabhakar is on a relatively weak wicket this time around and that the TRS would be able to wrest this constituency from the BJP.
