Hyderabad: With a view to block Congress president Rahul Gandhi's public meeting at the Arts College building in Osmania University on August 14, the Telangana government ordered the Higher Education Department to deny permission to hold any political programme on the campus in order to prevent any untoward incidents.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit the State on a two-day tour on August 13-14 and had planned to address a meeting with the University students before heading back to the national capital on August 14.

However, the University officials are planning to issue an order that bans all political meetings and activities on the campus, on the grounds that they would disrupt the academic atmosphere. On the other hand, the University students are trying to approach the Vice Chancellor to request permission for inviting the Congress President for a lecture on "India: Unemployment and Education" at the Tagore Auditorium in the campus.

Vice Chancellor Rama Chandram clarified that the University has not yet come up with a decision on whether to allow Rahul Gandhi into the campus or not. Speaking to Sakshi on Sunday, the VC said that it would not be feasible for the University to provide him with Z category security and that they would consider allowing him to organize a meeting in either Koti Women's College or Nizam College.
