Telangana Govt Orders Closure Of All Open Borewells By July 10

A fine of Rs50,000 will be imposed on those who do not close their non-functional bore wells before the deadline

Hyderabad: In the aftermath of a baby losing her life after accidentally falling into an uncovered borewell at a village in Ranga Reddy district recently, the state government on Wednesday ordered the district authorities to fill up all non-functional bore wells by July 10.

State Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said that a fine of Rs50,000 will be imposed on those who do not close their non-functional bore wells before the deadline. The minister also directed that a survey of bore wells, which are not in use will be undertaken.

"Those who wishing to dig a fresh bore well should obtain a permission 15 days in advance failing which a penalty of Rs1 lakh will be imposed," he added.

Recently in Siricilla district, the officials identified nearly 95 defunct open borewells in 13 mandals of the district. The authorities identified largest number of 32 bore wells in Mustabad mandal, 17 in Thangallapalli mandal, 10 in Gambhiraopeta, 11 in Yellareddypet mandal and 7 in Vemulawada.
