Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister and education minister Kadiyam Srihari said that the state government has plans to introduce a common entrance test for UG and PG courses for better administration. The meeting was held with newly appointed vice-chancellors, registrars of universities and TSCHE officials at VCs conference on Tuesday.

At the meeting the minister took stock of 11 universities in the state and said that university education needs a complete overhaul. Emphasis was made on filling up vacant posts, as there are over 3,000 vacant posts across state universities, for which recruitment has been on hold for quite some time.

The minister said that a separate committee must be formed to look into academic activities in universities, adding that reforms should be brought in PhD admissions.

"Lakhs of students are awaiting for PhD admissions to being and committee must be constituted to bring reforms to simplify the process," said Srihari.

Raising concern over unemployment, universities were directed to reorganize courses with additional skill-based programs to increase employment rate. The minister added that CCTV cameras and bio-metric system should be implemented to remove irregularities in students attendance.
