TDP, TRS slam state over power woes

Slamming the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh over the prevailing power shortage, main Opposition Telugu Desam and TRS held protests at several places in the state.

Demanding that the government improve the power supply situation in the state, TRS MLAs organised a protest near the headquarters of Andhra Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation (APTRANSCO) at Khairatabad here. Maintaining that the erratic power supply made life difficult for people, especially farmers, they demanded that the government ensure seven hours of uninterrupted power to farmers as promised. The Chief Minister and other Ministers were busy trying to protect their positions on account of CBI cases without caring for the people, TRS MLA T Harish Rao alleged. The protesting MLAs were removed from the place by police and taken to Bollarum police station in the city. Condemning the arrest of the MLAs, Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) Convener M Kodandaram, who visited the MLAs, claimed that the Congress government discriminated against Telangana region in power supply. TRS floor leader in Assembly E Rajender said protests would be organised tomorrow in the districts in support of the demand for improving power supply to farmers. Meanwhile, senior TDP MLA E Dayakar Rao and other party leaders held demonstrations at the offices of power utilities at various places in the state. The Congress had promised to provide uninterrupted power supply for seven hours to farmers but has failed to do so, they charged.
