The Cash for Vote fiasco appears to have taught no lessons to the TDP. It continued its shameful saga of horse-trading even in Andhra Pradesh.

On Tuesday, ahead of the local body MLC elections in Prakasam district, the TDP lured several YSRCP MPTCS and lodged them in a Nellore hotel. This is part of the TDP’s attempt to win the MLC poll in Nellore, where it does not have the requisite members. The TDP has got over 30 YSRCP MPTCs with allurements and threats. They were packed off to neighbouring Nellore to be lodged in a hotel.

On knowing this, YSRCP MLAs Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy and Anil Kumar Yadav stormed the hotel and sought to know the whereabouts of the YSRCP MPTCs. When the YSRCP MPTCs saw their MLAs, they alleged that they were forcibly brought and were being made to side with the TDP under duress.

Meanwhile, TDP activists too gathered in large numbers to create a law and order situation in the hotel. YSRCP accused the TDP of resorting to the Cash for Vote scam even in Andhra Pradesh, despite egg on its face in Telangana. It said the MPTCs were lured with cash of up to Rs 5 lakh per vote and an advance of Rs 50000 was already paid to the MPTCs. They said Minister Narayana was behind the whole drama.

In Nellore and Prakasam, the TDP does not have the required numbers, but is trying to wean away YSRCP MPTCs to win the election through dubious means.
